If you have lived in Beverly for more than a couple of years, you already have your routine for the first weekend in August. Fireworks over the harbor, a walk down Cabot, maybe a stop at Lynch Park before the sun gets serious. What is worth paying attention to this year is how much of that routine now runs past storefronts that were not open the last time Homecoming came around.

Cabot Street is not the Cabot Street of two summers ago

The stretch from Rantoul over to the upper end of Cabot has quietly turned over. A couple of the changes are worth naming because they shape how a weekend actually plays out.

At 252 Cabot Street, in the former Ellis Square Social space, Daniella's on Cabot, a new Italian restaurant from the North Shore Hospitality Group, opened its doors in December 2025. Owner Daniella Mammola describes the space as combining her café's familiar warmth with the sophistication of a traditional ristorante, and the menu features Italian classics, seafood, and steak dishes, plus a family-style Sunday Supper. If you have been defaulting to the same three sit-down spots on Cabot for years, this is the one to swap in.

Down the street at 203 Cabot, the former El Jefe Taco Bar has a new tenant on the way. Sea Dog Brewing Company is opening its next Massachusetts location there, with a brewpub that will seat over 300 guests indoors and outdoors and include event spaces. Sea Dog was founded in 1993, offers English-style ales, and the menu covers chowders, sandwiches, tacos, burgers, and more. Renovations are underway. It is not open in time for Homecoming, but if you are the sort of person who tracks these things, watching the buildout is part of the walk.

A little further back from the water, at 114 Rantoul in the former Frank space, Qué Mas opened from "Chopped" finalist Alex Pineda with modern Latin cuisine drawing from South America, Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, and Peru. Pineda, if the name is unfamiliar, has an interesting pedigree: he is the son of Lydia Shire, owner of the renowned Scampo. Worth knowing when you are deciding between the familiar and the not-yet-tried.

The corridor most people are still calling "out by the mall"

Dodge Street and Cummings Center are where the newer chain and fast-casual concepts have been landing, and the mix says something about how Beverly's food scene is stratifying.

At 55 Dodge Street, Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal's "Big Chicken" opened a new location on the North Shore in late June. Franchise partners Barry Lattuca, James O'Hanlon, Michael Scibelli and Martin LaChance of JBMM Hospitality opened it about nine months after a previous location at the Northshore Mall in Peabody closed. That gap is the interesting part. The Peabody store did not make it, and the group re-opened a few miles east in a very different retail setting. If you are curious whether Dodge Street draws a different crowd than the mall did, this is the natural test case.

Cummings Center has one more addition on the way. Pressed Cafe is planning to open in Beverly, with leasing documents indicating a move into the former Acapulcos space at Cummings Center in 2026, joining other locations in Boston's Back Bay and Seaport, Burlington, Chelmsford, Lawrence, and Newton, with a menu of breakfast dishes, soups, panini, bowls, fresh-pressed juices, and coffee. For anyone who works in the Cummings complex, that is a meaningful weekday lunch change.

And down at the water, Mission Boathouse, the newest addition to the Mission Restaurant Group family, sits on Beverly Pier with a waterfront patio overlooking Beverly Marina. The menu leans New American and Latin-inspired, with buffet-style spreads, a la carte dishes, and freshly prepared sushi. Sunset over the harbor from the patio is the pitch, and during Homecoming week that view has extra weight.

Homecoming, and why this one is different

The dates are worth writing on the fridge. Beverly Homecoming runs Sunday, July 26 through Sunday, August 9, 2026. From waterfront fireworks to family-friendly events all around town, Homecoming is a time to reconnect and celebrate local heritage.

The reason this year carries extra weight: it marks the 61st Annual Homecoming and celebrates 400 years since the settlement of Beverly. Two anniversaries stacked on the same calendar. Even long-time residents who have watched the parade every year of their adult lives are going to see programming they have not seen before.

A few of the specific week-long touches worth pointing out from the schedule:

The schedule includes the tennis tournament, Lego Beverly, Music & Movement, and Homecoming High Tea at Jolie Tea Co. with seatings at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. The full run of concerts, athletic events, and family programming lives on the Beverly Homecoming site, and it is worth checking day-by-day because the volunteer-run schedule shifts with weather. Past nights have been cancelled or moved on short notice due to forecast conditions, so if you are driving in from Prides Crossing or Montserrat, a quick check before you head out saves a wasted trip.

How to actually build a weekend around it

Rather than treating the openings and the Homecoming calendar as two separate lists, the honest local move is to pair them. A few combinations that make geographic sense:

• Cabot Street evening: A Homecoming concert or downtown event, then dinner at Daniella's if you want something new, or Qué Mas if you want the Pineda menu.
• Waterfront afternoon: Fireworks night lines up naturally with a patio dinner at Mission Boathouse on Beverly Pier, given the marina sightline.
• Family morning: Lego Beverly or Music & Movement, then Pressed Cafe once it is open at Cummings, or a low-key stop at any of the Rantoul spots on the walk back.
• Out-of-town guests: The 400th-anniversary framing gives you an easy narrative. High Tea at Jolie Tea Co. is the kind of detail visitors remember.

The thing to hold on to: for the first time in a while, the answer to "where should we go, we have been to all our usual spots" is not a shrug. Between Cabot Street's turnover, the Dodge Street arrivals, and a Homecoming week carrying the weight of 400 years, there is more genuinely new material inside the city limits this August than most residents expect.
